Mahitosh, Ankita win State U-13 chess titles

Mahitosh Dey (Khurda) and Ankita Sahoo (Cuttack) won the open and girls titles respectively in the Odisha State Under-13 Chess Championship, which was organised by Jajpur United Chess Association (JUCA), under the aegis of All Odisha Chess Association (AOCA) at Venkateswar English Medium School, Jarka, Jajpur from June 11 to 13.

In the seven-round tournament, both Mahitosh and Ankita garnered six points each. As many as 120 players, including 44 girls, participated in the three-day championship. District Incom Tax Officer Raghunath Sethy, AOCA vice-president Ranjan Mohanty and JUCA president Chaitanya Jena gave away the trophies and prizes in the closing function.

JUCA secretary Manoj Parida, chief arbiter Arghya Arpan Parida and arbiter Bhabesh Mohanty were present on the occasion. Top two finishers in both open and girls categories became eligible to represent Odisha in the National U-13 Chess Championship, scheduled to be held at Ahmedabad in Gujarat from July 22 to 30.
